Rochdale bid document

Engle Architects approached 400 to design and produce their final stage bid document to redevelop the town centre of Rochdale. Having been successfully shortlisted in two prior stages, Engle were looking to keep visual consistency with their previous bids but wanted this submission to raise the bar even higher. The existing colour palette and typographic style were used but the layout, grid structure, and the typographic icon were all refreshed. All format and production proposals focused around keeping quality high, but within the extremely tight allotted timescale.

Having interviewed local residents and incorporated their feedback into their designs, Engle wanted to demonstrate not only their ideas for how Rochdale could look but also how these retained Rochdale's character and would develop further in consultation with local residents. We reflected Engle's inclusive approach by photographing local residents with the Rochdale icon, and incorporating these images as double-page spreads within the document. Using a simple grid structure allowed for large image areas to contain their plans and made the document quick to typeset, as well as achieving our aim of making the bid easy to read and navigate. Spot UV representations of Engle's proposed central sculpture were used on the custom made hard back cover and slipcase that the final document was bound into.

"Thank you on behalf of all of us for your efforts. Your creative contribution, patience and attention to detail have been outstanding." - Client comment
