Rewilding London
Visual identity and report design to help communicate the principles and recommendations of the Mayor of London’s Rewilding Taskforce.
Formed to explore rewilding opportunities in London, the taskforce’s focus was to identify initiatives that would support nature recovery, enhance biodiversity, bring benefits to Londoners and address the climate and ecological emergency.
Our brief was to bring to life the taskforce’s principles for defining and guiding rewilding activities, and clearly present their recommendations and engagement initiatives.
Immersion workshops gave us a deeper understanding of a wide range of nature conservation and greening initiatives and interventions, and helped us to identify key themes that we felt should be represented in the visual execution.
The first idea was that rewilding is a journey, where change happens at nature’s pace and unfolds over time. The second was connection, specifically the notion of how connecting with nature brings shared benefits for people, wildlife and the environment.
Our creative approach combines bespoke illustration, photography and silhouettes of london boroughs to bring specific initiatives to life, joined with a linear device to reinforce the sense of a journey and connection. This visual language and toolkit of assets formed the basis for a versatile design system that would work effectively across a range of materials to support the development of nature recovery initiatives and engage Londoners in action to rewild the city.
