UNICEF’s work on early childhood development recognises that every child needs nurturing care, good health and nutrition, and a stimulating, safe environment that supports early learning.

Families need support to ensure the best start for their children, especially those who face challenges such as poverty, disability or social exclusion. To help provide parents with timely and quality guidance, even when direct contact with service providers is not possible, the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia initiated the development of a free mobile parenting app.

We undertook extensive research, interviews, and workshops to help define a naming strategy, then through a series of exercises developed a short-list of the most distinctive and memorable names. Rigorous testing followed to ensure effectiveness across multiple linguistic and cultural contexts, and Bebbo was born.

We brought the name to life through characterful typography, engaging iconography and a vibrant colour palette. This informed the visually inviting and intuitive app design, which provides easy access to the information and advice that parents need to help their children grow up healthy and happy.
