The UNFCCC Secretariat (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or UN Climate Change) is tasked with supporting the global response to the threat of climate change. It explores ways to assist developing countries in assessing climate finance needs and priorities, and to translate these needs into action.

We were appointed to develop a new visual identity system for their ‘Needs-based Finance’ (NBF) initiative, an ongoing project to facilitate access to finance to support mitigation and adaptation actions.

With the initiative being implemented as regional and national projects in over 100 countries, the sheer volume of communications materials demanded an engaging and accessible visual approach that was incredibly versatile.

We developed a distinctive illustration style that would form the basis for the overall look and feel, and created a comprehensive library of visual assets that could be easily adapted and combined to produce a wide variety of compositions.

The resulting deliverables included an extensive portfolio of Technical Assessments and Strategy Reports for specific territories and topics. Our approach ensured these potentially disparate materials had a visually rich and striking consistency that reflected their important role in mobilising climate finance.
