World Food Programme: Stop the Waste 2020 Campaign
Creative concept development and communications toolkit for a global campaign to raise awareness of food waste.
Enough food is produced globally to feed the world’s 7 billion people, but 811 million people still go to bed hungry each night, and one-third of food produced is lost or wasted throughout the supply chain. This equates to a financial loss of about US$1 trillion and causes the emission of more than 3 billion tons of greenhouse gases.
The World Food Programme launched Stop the Waste, a campaign to raise awareness of the huge amount of edible food that is discarded daily. Our brief was to develop engaging and accessible visual content for the campaign, that would bring to life key themes, communicate the importance of valuing food, and provide food waste tips that would inspire everyone to make a change.
Characterful illustrations, bold typography and a vibrant colour palette provided the basis for a versatile toolkit which could be easily adapted to work in seven different languages and across a range of collateral, to communicate how small actions can have a big impact in the fight to eradicate global hunger.
