The World Maritime University was established in Malmö in 1983, with the aim of becoming the world centre for maritime education and research, while building global capacity and promoting sustainable development. With 5800+ alumni from 170 countries and territories, WMU has created a global network of leaders in the maritime and oceans sectors.

An inconsistent approach to brand and design had, however, left the University without the personality or identity to match its achievements. We were appointed to develop a new brand system that could be applied flexibly and consistently across all communications to elevate its brand presence.

We took inspiration from the striking architecture of the University’s modern extension, its angular lines informing a distinctive new visual language that includes a new colour palette, bold typography, clean iconography and layouts.

Our approach ensures that the state-of-the-art academic environment sits front and centre of the contemporary and vibrant new brand style, inspiring the next generation of leaders and innovators to drive towards a sustainable maritime and oceans future.
